Net Log: Sacramento Valley CERT Net About: Sacramento Valley CERT Net Date: July 10, 2022 Net Control: WS6Z Log URL: https://log.hamtools.org/log/view/127 Opening Announcements ------------------------------- In the past we've discussed how to help manage less trained volunteers at shelters. Tonight we're going to talk about how to help organize citizen volunteers in a search and rescue project. In particular, Davis CERT has talked about doing this when the city receives a large number of volunteers that want to help. The thought is that a CERT member could each lead a group of volunteers. What are you thoughts and conecrns about this subject? Now we will begin CERT team roll calls, grouped by participating City CERT teams. We will take any late or missing members after roll call finishes. After roll call, we will call for visiting stations. Davis City CERT ------------------------------- We now ask Davis City CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: WS6Z Wes Hardaker - teach volunteers to walk a line in a public park KG6SJT Greg Kruckewitt - if dark, control over less people - 3-6 people? - buddy up and walk a path - don't lose more people! - fluent speakers of the language of the person lost would be good to have Elk Grove / Galt ------------------------------- We now ask Elk Grove / Galt City CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: Folsom ------------------------------- We now ask Folsom CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: AA6CS Christopher - public can help but also hinder - is it worth the investment/overhead? - need guidance - need handholding - assign public to search more open trails KK6PAS Chuck - completely untrained can be a liability - inside of homes would be more dangerous - don't take on so many untrained so as to not overwhelm the trained Sacramento Metro Fire CERT ------------------------------- We now ask Sacramento Metro Fire CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: KM6RIW Brad - it's both a risk and a necessity - imagining an outside search with 1 cert person with 1-2 volunteers - ensure they could follow directions - pass on a lot of information as education as you're heading out to the right place - be very detailed and specific - check with volunteers to see what they're comfortable with - skills inventory would be good to have up front West Sacramento ------------------------------- We now ask West Sacramento CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: Woodland ------------------------------- We now ask Woodland CERT members to check into the net. Checkins: WA6TQJ Gary Assessment of volunteers: - mobility - language - alergies or bee stings, etc? - properly clothed (including shoes)? - headlamps/flashlights - can they drive a car, etc? ## Late Members We will do visitor checkins in a moment, but first are there any late members of Sacramento Valley CERT teams, or CERT members that aren’t on the roster that would like to check into tonight’s net? *Handle any late checkins* Visitors ------------------------------- We will now accept visitor checkins to the Sacramento Valley Multi-City CERT net.  You do not need to be affiliated with a CERT team to check into our net.
